Dalby Choral Festival

C’est la Vie, small vocal ensemble were awarded first place at Dalby Choral Eisteddfod last week.

In attempt to enhance the profile of choral singing within the school and as a means to collaborate with our Primary State feeder schools, the Dalby Choral Festival has been initiated by classroom music teacher, Helen Gleeson.

Through the support of Dalby State High School P&C and the generous financial assistance of sponsors, Thiess, Stonestreets and Jondaryan Woolshed, this has allowed the school to invite a choir from Brisbane to offer students the chance to hear professional vocal ensembles. A workshop prior to the Festival Concert has also proved to be highly beneficial in giving our students clues on how to work together as a team to improve the overall sound of the choral ensemble.

Students participating in the workshops also have the added bonus of performing with the guest ensemble on the day of the Festival.

This year, to celebrate their 30th anniversary, Queensland Show Choir will be returning to work with us again.    Some 65 singers – 3 different choral groups, will workshop with us, under the guidance of one of the Music Directors, Mr Daniel Crump, a Primary / High School choral specialist.

Rehearsals are well underway for the event. All students are encouraged to join in on Monday & Friday lunches. For further details about Choral Matters, don’t hesitate to contact Helen Gleeson, classroom music teacher @ DSHS.
