Starting year 11 in year 10

Four year 10 Dalby State High School students have been accepted into the innovative ‘Chronos project’ this year. This program has allowed them to start studying three year 11 subjects while completing year 10.

Principal, Dr Dean Russell said “all four have excellent academic data, outstanding naplan results, are highly motivated students and have a level of maturity that will make them perfect candidates to extend and accelerate their senior phase of learning.”

These four students have commenced their year 11 program a full year ahead of their peers, providing opportunities for extension and challenge. Research suggests that accelerating students at this point in their education will result in increased academic achievement and a tendency to outperform students of similar ability who were not accelerated.

Dr Russell went on to say “Laura, Jacob, Lucas and Madi completed the rigorous application process last year. When they reach grade 12 these students will have scope in their timetable to allow them to start undergraduate studies at university.”

All four students are enthusiastic about the opportunity to ‘get a head start’ in their chosen career. Laura plans to pursue study in the accountancy field, while Madi wants to focus on law. Jacob is considering an occupation based on computers and Lucas is intent on an engineering specialty.

All four have had a positive start to the year and are enjoying the challenge that accelerating their study is going to bring.
