The study of the society and environment (SOSE) enables students to become active and informed citizens of the world.  Students will have developed complex understandings about the interactions between people and their environments, and the continuing evolution of humans as a species. The various subjects that encompass SOSE provide essential skills in literacy and numeracy, research, analysis and evaluation of information.  Such skills are important for any career aspirations.

Core SOSE is studied from year 7 (2015) to year 10{see flyer Junior SOSE}.  The five authority subjects of Economics, Legal Studies, Geography and both Modern and Ancient History can be studied in Years 11 and 12 {see flyer Senior SOSE}.

The SOSE curriculum is developed using the Australian National Curriculum, QSA resources, Queensland’s C2C, combined with teacher expertise to meet the learning requirements of Dalby State High Students.  Varied resources, excursions, visitor presentations are utilised to provide a rich learning experience for the students.  A mixture of assessment tools are employed to measure student achievement and to provide students with skills that will ensure they can meet the demands of an ever-changing world.
